Suppose you were granted the powers to possess the body of someone else, or perhaps make mutual body swaps. What would be the consequence of doing this? Would you retain your memories, habits, personality, and only inherit the physical properties of the body you have possessed? This question has been popping up in my mind rather frequently recently, for reasons unbeknownst to thou. For the record, I wrote like a few paragraphs, then deleted them, then wrote some more, then deleted them, then did it again, because they all contained nothing but trivial reasoning. Any takes on this?

Won’t that depend on the nature and limitations of the aforementioned powers which are pretty much abritary since for all we know right now they are impossible.

But if I had to make random guesses, I would say that you would probably retain your conscious memories and habits but bodily fucntions and lower level reflexes might possibly differ. Well, that’s just what I think…

That said, if such technology is possible, I will rather have my consciousness digitalized than conduct body-swapping experiments. D:

Well we can pretty much predict the nature of the swapping powers, since there are few prerequisites that such technology must possess, like the ability to completely transfer consciousness.

I guess you’re right. It’ll be great if I could look at myself naked in the mirror.

Can’t you do just that by looking at the mirror directly?

yo haha i don’t know if you will still see this, but from a philosophical pov, i guess that question depends on whether you’re a monist, or a dualist. because if you’re a monist, you’ll support the stand that the mind and body are one - hence body swaps are either impossible (for extreme monists), or you’ll lose everything when you swap. but if you’re a dualist, you’ll support the stand that body and mind are separate entities, which means that you can possibly bring your mind over to another body and vice versa. haha it’s a pretty cool think to ponder over - but i guess at the end of the day there’s hardly a clear-cut answer till you’re sure of whose side you’re on, the monists or dualists.
